Change, 2021
This work is an exploration of dementia and the effects it has on those around the individual and the memory of the individual suffering. My grandmother was diagnosed with dementia when I was 16 and it has made me think about memory and how fragile it is in terms of how and what we remember. Specific things that I remember from my own childhood have been changed as a direct result of memory loss and the act of taking care of her. These images are of scenes that I remember fondly from growing up, like her bathroom or her bedside table, that have changed as a result of disease. The images overlaid seek to ground the work in the surrounding nature that is constantly in a state of change and the construction of this series seeks to explore the fragmentation and loss of memory through visual representation.
